Why make an LPA?
By making a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) you get to make the choice of person to manage your affairs and make decisions for you on your behalf if you ever lose the capacity to do these things yourself.
The process of making your LPA involves careful choices and the accurate completion of all parts of the LPA form in the right order.
At least five people are involved in making an LPA (the donor, a witness, a certificate provider, an attorney and either a person to be notified or a second certificate provider) with all needing to do their part correctly means that having expert guidance removes the risk of getting things wrong and having the LPA rejected.
You also have the option of making two different types of LPA or indeed you can make both. The options are the Health and Welfare LPA, which can cover a large range of matters, e.g. medical treatment and day to day matters like diet, and the Property and Finance LPA, which can cover any financial matters such as buying and selling your house or dealing with savings and bank accounts.
